About Us
The name Yowlumne comes from a tribe of Yokuts Indians in the southern San Joaquin Valley who lived in the shadow of the Sierra Nevada and San Emigdio Mountains, and called themselves the "Wolf People". Like other Yokuts tribes, they hunted the rich grasslands of the valley margins and fished the marshlands and lakes of the interior in the days before the Spanish conquistadors arrived. Scouting has long embraced the ideals and crafts of Native Americans such as these. Thus, it is fitting that when Order of the Arrow Lodge #303 of the Southern Sierra Boy Scout Council was founded at Camp Huntington (later Camp Kern) on June 11, 1945, they chose to identify themselves with the "People of the Wolf
